Feed & Fertiliser Testing

Animal Feed Testing

Feed costs represent the largest annual operating cost for most commercial farming enterprises. In order to maintain an optimum balance between feed costs and production, feeds must be analyzed and these results used to formulate rations and (or) supplements. Feedstuffs vary widely in nutrient concentration due to location, harvest date (maturity), year, and other management practices.

Oldcastle Laboratories offer a wide range of feed tests. Tests offered include:

  • General Feed Tests– Protein, Oil, Fibre, Ash, Moisture.
  • Feed Mineral Testing– Calcium, Copper, Iron, Lead, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc.
  • Silage & Hay making are expensive processes. Ensure that you have your grass in an optimum condition before you go to the expense of cutting it. Oldcastle Laboratories carry out grass ensilability testing including Sugar Content, Nitrates, Dry Matter and Buffering capacity.
  • When the preservation process has been completed we can also test the forage to ensure the quality of the feed for your animals. Tests offered include General silage analysis, Haylage analysis, Silage Mineral Profile and Wholecrop/ Maize Silage analysis.

With the nitrates directive and nutrient management plans in place on most modern farms, the importance of knowing the nutrional composition of fertilizers, slurries and farmyard manure has become more important. At Oldcastle Laboratories we can analyse the Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium contents of slurries, farmyard manure and fertilisers to get an accurate picture of the nutrients being spread on the land.
