Somatic Cell Count
It is now a requirement to maintain SCC levels in bulk milk less than 400,000/ml in compliance with EU standards. To achieve this target consistently bulk milk SCC levels should average < 200,000/ml. It is difficult to control the SCC in bulk milk if the SCC of every cow within the herd is not monitored regularly. Early detection of subclinical mastitis using SCC testing in individual cows provides an effective indicator for detecting (I) cows with new infections (ii) cows with persistent problems (chronic cows) and (iii) cows with transient problems. These SCC data are useful when selecting cows for culling and also as a means of selecting cows for antibiotic therapy in the dry period.
We can now offer results within 2 hours for Somatic Cell Count tests on individual milk samples and extremely competitive prices!
